Michael Graves was an internationally known architect and designer, and his firm Michael Graves & Associates remains one of the leading design firms in the world. In 1985, Graves designed the iconic “Whistling Bird” tea kettle for Alessi, which became the manufacturer’s most popular teakettle. While Michael Graves is most immediately recognized for his tea pot, he was also a renowned architect and furniture designer, and had a successful career spanning more than 40 years.
Michael Graves was known for his Postmodern buildings which featured bright colors and abstracted forms. The architect had a prolific career, having designed over 350 buildings. Not only did he mastermind each detail of the exterior, he also paid close attention to every aspect of the property including the furniture, light and artwork.
