Redge Martin, President of Clars, announced that Mariam Whitten has joined the 46-year-old Oakland, California auction house, which is the premier auction gallery in the Western United States.
Ms. Whitten, a San Francisco Bay Area native, comes to Clars from a twenty plus year career at Bonhams Auction House San Francisco, formerly Butterfield & Butterfield. She began as Front Desk Manager before becoming Director of Internet Services. Subsequently, she rose to Director of Business Administration, and lastly, Vice President of Operations. With each position change, she was given greater responsibilities and larger staffs, eventually managing the operation heads for the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York operations.
Many former colleagues and clients speak highly about Ms. Whitten’s collegial style and analytical abilities and are enthusiastic about her move to Clars.
Mr. Martin, after twenty-five years at the Gallery, during which time sales have increased tenfold, has decided to scale back his workload to pursue other interests, and many of his responsibilities will be taken over by Ms. Whitten.
Clars Auction Gallery appraises and auctions fine art, jewelry, antiques, Asian arts, vehicles, and collectibles. The gallery sells more than 2,000 items in their two-day auctions and timed sales, which are held monthly to live and online bidders. The property comes from estates, individuals, dealers, museums and other institutions. Fifty to one hundred thousand collectors and dealers worldwide view their online catalogs and many participate in the auctions.
