Harvey L. Morton Stamp Collection at March 21st Auction

Saturday, March 21, 2015, Clars Auction Gallery will be offering the extensive worldwide stamp collection from the estate of Harvey L. Morton who worked on this collection for almost 80 years. He was a long time APS (American Philatelic Society) member and was involved with APS circuit books. He was well known with dealers and was a partner in a new issue service for several years. Morton’s collection is expected to achieve $100,000 to $200,000.

The auction will feature predominately mint worldwide stamps including examples from the People’s Republic of China, Russia, France, French colonies, British colonies and many other regions. This lifelong collection will be offered in extensive lots of over 200 albums grouped into more than 100 auction lots. Highlights from this lifelong collection include a very extensive collection of France housed in three Scott specialty albums. Another massive outstanding collection of French colonies and related, housed in 12 large albums, is one of the many examples of one man’s life long collection. It is virtually all of the popular colorful long sets of the 1920s-30s, and is valued at $7,000-$10,000.

Also to be offered are numerous stamps from People’s Republic of China, including a 798a Souvenir Sheet VF NH, valued at $3,000-$5,000. Another set to be offered is a three volume pristine collection of People’s Republic of China with a fourth small binder of mint duplicates. It is virtually complete through 2001 with everything VF NH valued at $5,000-$7,000. Aside from the main collection, additional stamps lots will also be offered.

The Harvey L. Morton Collection will be offered as part of Clars monthly Fine Art, Decoratives, Jewelry and Asian Art Auction on Saturday, March 21st. The sales will begin promptly at 9:30am on Saturday previews for this sale will be held Friday, March 20th from 1pm to 6pmand 9am, Saturday beginning at 9:30 am and by appointment.
